Simplicity was started in 2012 with the belief that families should not have to pay high prices to receive the very best care in their time of need. In order to ensure substantial savings for families, we established welcoming, professional facilities with all the amenities of a traditional funeral home, but without the excessive overhead. James "Jim" Dobbins
General Manager/Funeral Director/Embalmer

Jim has been in funeral services for over 20 years. He has handled all aspects of funeral service including everything from door greeter as a college student to later becoming a funeral home manager.  Jim enjoys attending funeral services because he appreciates building relationships with families he serves and assisting them through difficult times.  He has also dedicated time to the worthy cause of DMORT (Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team), serving in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  He is a licensed pre-need representative and has helped many families plan their final wishes.

Jim is married to Miranda (who also has a family funeral home history) and, along with their dogs (Hank, Mike, and Kevin), resides in the greater Edisto area.  When he has free time, he enjoys boating, hunting, fishing and gardening.

Jamie Peacher Waldun
Chapel Manager/Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer/Certified Crematory Operator

Chapel manager for our Summerville/Ladson location, Jamie is a dual-licensed funeral director, embalmer and certified crematory operator in South Carolina and Georgia. Following graduation from Piedmont Technical College with a degree in mortuary science and a minor in business, Jamie and her husband, Shane, moved to the Lowcountry where their foodie-fueled curiosities explore the many culinary offerings the area offers. The Walduns and their menagerie of pets are enjoying their new home in Summerville.



Stephanie Zinskie Mikulec
Licensed Funeral Director

Stephanie is a newly licensed funeral director and embalmer, as well as a certified crematory operator.  She is originally from Georgia and moved to South Carolina after meeting her husband, Adam.  She is a graduate of Georgia Southern University, with a Bachelor’s of Science in Sociology. Not long after, she attended Piedmont Technical College and received a diploma in Mortuary Science. Stephanie found this calling while volunteering for a hospice facility as a teenager, and still enjoys volunteering when she can. For fun, Stephanie likes browsing around flea markets and riding her four-wheeler. 



Brandi Kizer
Licensed Funeral Director

Brandi Kizer, a native from St. George graduated from Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service in 2014 where she received her degree in mortuary science.  Brandi is licensed Funeral Director, Embalmer and Crematory Operator.  She began her funeral career at Thompson Funeral Home in Columbia where she served her apprenticeship.  Growing up in a small town, Brandi knew the funeral industry was her calling.  She and her fiancé, Nick reside in Dorchester and are members of Indian Field United Methodist Church.



Kathy Adkins
Administrative Assistant

Kathy is our newest administrative assistant at Simplicity. After over 10 years of raising two wonderful children, she has decided to re-enter the workforce. As the child of military parents, Kathy has traveled all over the world, and experienced many different cultures. For fun, she enjoys visiting amusement parks with her children and going to the movies. 



Billy Nunnally

Billy started his career in the funeral service back in 1965, following in his father's foot steps.  He worked in funeral service for twenty years before switching over to various positions as a government employee. After "retiring" Billy rejoined his first love of funeral service. He has been with Simplicity since inception of the company.  He handles many positions around the funeral home and is really a "jack of all trades." When Billy is not at work he is enjoying Georgia Bulldog football, shooting guns, and hunting and fishing . He, his wife and three dogs reside in Ravenel.



Mary Jo Swanson
Administrator

Mary Jo is an enthusiastic and experienced administrative professional who possesses a caring desire to help others during a stressful and potentially difficult time in their lives. Originally from the mid-west, Mary Jo attended Bowling Green State University prior moving to Summerville where she raised her three wonderful children. Embracing the ideals upon which Simplicity was founded, “MJ” has truly developed an amazing rapport with our families and serves an important role as she is often the first person they speak to in their time of need.



Joseph Demerly
Office Manager/ Funeral Director Apprentice/Certified Crematory Operator

After a 20+ year career as an executive/actor in the non-profit arts and entertainment industry in New York, Joe and his husband moved to Charleston to escape the snow and be closer to their nephews. Following in his father’s footsteps, Joe made the decision to pursue a career in funeral service and found that the ethics and “families come first” approach that Simplicity embodies was the perfect fit. His thoughtful care for others and compassionate attitude have consoled our families during their saddest times, and his propensity to make them comfortable is his foremost priority.



Erik Hendrickson-Cruz
Operations Manager

Erik Hendrickson Cruz has been in the funeral industry for over 10 years serving family’s in Oregon, Texas and now Charleston, South Carolina. Coming to the Lowcountry has been a dream come true. He enjoys the culture of the city as well as the beach and camping in nearby state and National parks. A part time writer, he has several published and produced plays to his credit as well as a novel set to be published later this year.” Serving the family’s here in the lowcountry gives me great satisfaction in knowing I have helped, when someone was at need.”
