Brenda Sue Sheppard

After years of suffering from a devastating form of dementia, Brenda Sheppard, 65, found solace in her Maker’s arms on Sunday, November 16, 2014.

Brenda was from a large family in rural Alabama, but spent most of her adult life in central Florida.  She was a cosmetologist and beloved friend to not only her Southside Baptist Church family, but also to the revolving door of friends seeking warmer winters for 40 plus years.

Brenda was a strong woman of faith who could always see the best in people and never ever gave up on them.  For most of her life, she was the caregiver, the one to prepare meals, run errands and visit shut-ins.  Her creativity was evident in the beautiful handcrafted quilts she gifted to others, the whimsical desserts she brought to church socials and her amazing rose gardens.  She had a great love of music and fostered the same in others.

Brenda had many deep and meaningful friendships throughout her life, but few could stand the test of her debilitating condition the last 4 years of her life.  The wonderful people North Trident Baptist Church and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, both of Summerville, have been the family to stand in the gap.  The Ark at St. Luke’s provided many joyful times, meaningful social opportunities and a safe place to be herself.

Brenda will be remembered by many as a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother and desperately missed by her 4-legged companions.  Her caregivers (adopted daughters) will long remember her love of simple things…picking up seashells, reciprocating the love of cats and dogs, feeding the birds, watching the squirrels try to outwit birdfeeders and butterflies.

Brenda is survived by her children Sherry Sheppard (Philip Sluder) of Summerville and Dale Sheppard (Monica) of Texas; grandchildren, brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life to be held at 11am on Friday, December 5, 2014 at North Trident Baptist Church in Summerville.  Repass immediately following in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Brenda’s name to The Ark – Alzheimer’s Family Support Services, 206 Central Ave, Summerville, SC  29483.
