  • Mary Ford says:

Herbert was my brother. I will miss him very much. He was from Kentucky, and served his country through the navy and the coast guard for many years. I will always remember him as he was when we were growing up.

I am very sorry about the loss of your brother Herb. I was stationed with Herb back in the late 80’s and then again in the mid 90’s when he was at Station Saginaw River. Herb was a good person and left a good impression on many people that worked with him. Many people have asked me how Herb passed. If this is not too difficult please let me know. I will share his passing with several old shipmates.

      Take care,

      Rick Ahlberg USCGR-retired

      • Mary Ford says:

Herbert died of lung cancer. Since then I have tried to find his family who were evicted from their home in February of this year, however, I have not been able to locate them. I would appreciate any help from anyone who may know how to locate them. It is good to hear from some of his shipmates. Thank you for asking and may God Bless you all.

      • Mary Ford says:

Thanks for your condolences. He will be sorely missed. He passed from cancer. Please tell me more or send me an email where we can discuss my brother. God Bless you.

  • Jon Brown USCG BM1 (Ret) says:

I was a Seaman and later BM3 at CGSta Saginaw River in the early 80’s. Herb was our XPO. I can still see him pulling up riding his Triumph into work, and us as a joke putting some kitty litter under it because it always leaked oil and he’d get mad but laugh it off. Crap, we are getting old…He was a good and fair boss.
