Mrs. Louise Martin Hill passed away at the Carter Mae Assisted Living Facility in Charleston, South Carolina on Tuesday evening, January 28, 2014. Visitation for Mrs. Hill will take place on Friday, February 7 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 888 King St., Charleston, South Carolina, 29403. Her funeral services will be held at Saturday, February 8 at 11 o’clock am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was born to the late Julius and Frederycka Martin of Charleston on May 31, 1915, and was married to the late David Seabrook Hill. She lead a long and productive life and was involved in the social and political life of Charleston, the State, and the Nation. Among her many activities, she was an early supporter of the Jack & Jill Chapter of Charleston, a Girl Scout leader, a Carter Mae Assisted Living volunteer, a long time member of the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration, and perennial fixture of the Charleston County Democratic Party. She served political campaigns of President Jimmy Carter, President Bill Clinton, Governor Dick Riley, Jr., Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., Congressman James Clyburn; and a number of other political leaders. She also served as the Charleston Regional Director of the Governor’s Office during SC Governor Richard W. Riley’s administration. She received many honors during her life, including the prestigious SC award “Order of the Palmetto” and the National Award for Meritorious Service from the Knights of St. Peter Claver. She leaves two children to mourn her death, Harold (Rosa) Seabrook Hill of Charleston and Carol (Isaac) Hill Byrd of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren (Carol, Amy, Jonathan, David, and Brittany), two grandchildren (Mikayla Hill and Sophia Hill); and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins; and friends.
