Patricia A. Mason passed away Christmas Day at the Presbyterian Home in Summerville, SC.
Patricia Allan Mason was born in Trail BC, Canada to Albert and Verna Allan on October 10, 1928. She grew up in Bradner, BC and later moved to Vancouver. She worked as a secretary in various companies such as Ferguson Transport Co and an advertisement company in Vancouver. She then worked for the Provincial Government in Victoria. In 1957 she came to the United States with her sister Ruth and brother in law John. She then came to Miami, Florida staying at the YWCA hotel on the Miami River. She joined the First Presbyterian Church on Brickel Avenue and worked as a Legal Secretary for Mr. Blackwell of the Blackwell, Walker & Gray firm. She met Jaque Mason at the First Presbyterian Church and married him August 1958.
They moved to Gainesville, FL where she was employed as Mr. Avera’s secretary in the firm of Scruggs, Carmichael & Avera. After 2 years in Gainesville she moved to Athens, GA where she worked for the Gulf Oil Co until the birth of her son, Keith. She did Dissertation typing part time until she became secretary for Elmer Schact, a retired CEO of a major Company. In 1968 she moved to Raleigh, NC and obtained secretarial work at the Economic Department of NC State. She also worked at the State of NC Legislature for the Senator Pro Tem.
In 1972 she moved to Minneapolis, MN and worked for the Larkin, Hoffman Law Firm. She joined the Westminster Presbyterian Church. After 14 years in Minneapolis she moved to Sparta, NJ where she enjoyed the social life and making many friends. In 1997 she retired to Charleston and joined the Summerville Presbyterian Church. She lived in the Whitehall Subdivision until October 2014 when a fall, breaking her hip and arm caused a rehabilitation from which she never fully recovered.
She is survived by her husband Jaque Mason, a son Keith A. Mason, a sister Ruth Dickerson and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Summerville Presbyterian Church at a later date. Interment will be private at the Old White Cemetery on Dorchester Road.
