Obituary of Edward Paul Phillips

Edward Paul Phillips, 76, of Ladson, SC entered peacefully into eternal rest Sunday, June 10, 2018 at his home surrounded by his daughter, Joanna Phillips, granddaughter, Jasmine Heath, first wife, Connie Martin and many friends.

Eddie was born April 19, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland to Eugene and Ruth Phillips and brother to Les Phillips.  He graduated from Moultrie High School in Mt. Pleasant, SC where he also played football.  He was blessed to have been able to work in the family business, Phillips Industrial Services, with his father, brother, daughter and both of his nephews.  He was an industrial painter, welder and underwater welder.  He was an avid scuba diver with Charleston Scuba and was lucky enough to have dove with Jacques Cousteau.  In 1982 he discovered the Fred W Day, a 170 feet long, four-mastered schooner which was a monument to the end of the days of sail.  He also worked at Detyens Boatyards Inc as a tug boat captain in Freeport, Bahamas.  Upon his retirement he wanted a new adventure so he moved to Costa Rica where he lived for 9 years before returning home to his daughter.

Eddie loved to travel and experience new cultures.  He enjoyed life to the fullest and all the wonders life has to offer, but most of all he got the most enjoyment from being a father and diving with his daughter, whom he thought the world of.  Eddie got to share a whole new world with Joanna that not many fathers get to do in their work and diving together.

Eddie is survived by his daughter, Joanna Phillips, granddaughter Jasmine Heath, brother, Les Phillips, and two nephews Les Phillips Jr. and Sean Phillips.  Eddie will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.  He was always a great friend and mentor to those who knew him.  He would do anything for those who would need his help.
