Arnold Berger

Obituary of Arnold Berger

On Wednesday, September 12, Arnold Berger passed away in Bluffton, South Carolina.  He was 77 years old.  Arnold (Arnie) was the younger of two sons born to Jack and Hannah (nee Goldberg) Berger on September 24, 1940 in the Bronx, New York.  He is survived by his loving wife, Arlene (nee Carter), for 48 years with exceptional companionship.  He is also being missed by his children: Jennifer G. Berger, Gregory M. Berger and Andrea B. Berger, as well as his older brother Marvin Berger and his wife, Lynn.

Arnie went to the Bronx High School of Science and graduated in three years. From there he went to Ohio University and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor’s degree in Math.  He went on to study for his Master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania, but stopped short of writing his thesis because he began a family.  A year after graduation he got a job with G.E. and worked for them and the resulting companies for 40 years in computer science, in the aerospace division.  He was also a proud member of the Elks Lodge.

He loved his children so much and loved to play with them and rarely missed a game or performance. He taught his kids to ride bikes (without ever knowing how to ride one himself), play sports, brought them to their favorite places to play, was a great listener and never said no to a hug. He loved music from various genres from classical to rock and big band to Broadway. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and loved his Phillies.  He was also extremely happy to see his Eagles win their first Superbowl.   Arnie loved the cats and dogs he had in his life and had the most infectious, wonderful laugh.  He was simple in need, but not in giving.  He was supportive, generous and forgiving and was simply an amazing man.
