Obituary of Melvin Kesterson

Kesterson, Melvin (Batman) Stanley - age 82 of Summerville, SC passed in peace surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. He left a lasting legacy and will be deeply missed and cherished always. Batman was born March 22, 1936 in Clinton, Tennessee. He was a hard-working man who spent 36 years employed with John Deere specifically James River Equipment in Richmond, VA. He was an avid sports fan with a love for golf and the Tennessee Volunteers.

 

He was a follower of Jesus Christ and was a member of Staples Mill Road Baptist Church in Glen Allen, Virginia. Preceded in death by parents, Hubert and Acie Kesterson, sisters, Dorothy Kesterson, Lou Jean Riddell; brother Curtis Kesterson; and son Melvin Kesterson, Jr.

Papaw Batman loved his family and was a real-life superhero to his wife of 59 years, Wanda; son, Greg (Donna) of Concord, NC; daughter Robin (Darryl) Franklin of Summerville, SC; grandchildren, Nicole (Ryan) Campbell of Forest, VA, Ben (Jake) Kesterson of Charlotte, NC, Hailee Kesterson (fiancé Michael) of Cornelius, NC, Becca (Dawjr) Wood of Wake Forest, NC, Moriah Cockerham of Concord, NC and Morgan Cockerham of Concord, NC.; great grandchildren, Emma Wood, Aubrey Wood, Gaines Campbell, and 3 great grandchildren on the way; brothers, Robert Kesterson, Carl Kesterson, and Larry Kesterson; numerous nieces and nephews; countless friends.

A graveside celebration of his life will be held on November 3, 2018 at 11 am at Grandview Memorial Gardens, 219 Longmire Rd in Clinton, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Staples Mill Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 10101 Staples Mill Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
