Obituary of Phyllis Ann Fleming

Phyllis Ann Jarvis Fleming, born August 7, 1935 in Olive Hill, Kentucky to Haskell “Hack” Jarvis and Maude Evelyn Burchett Jarvis Conley, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the age of 83. She devoted her life to raising and caring for her family starting at the age of 12 years old for her siblings. Phyllis continued to carry on her mothering role while at the Masonic Home in Louisville, Kentucky. She was an Eastern Star, K-5 teaching aid at Nativity Catholic School, and helped begin the afterschool program at Nativity Catholic School. Phyllis devoted 49 years of her life joined in marriage to First Sergeant Dick Fleming, supporting his 21 years of service in the United States Marine Corps, unto which they celebrated two children, Tami Ann and Lynn Marie. Phyllis was the most selfless person anyone could have the good fortune of meeting and was the best Momma and Gamma. She will be missed everyday for the rest of the lives of those who loved her.

Phyllis is survived by two daughters: Tami Ann Fleming Andrews and her husband Tom of James Island, SC and Lynn Marie Fleming and her life partner Tony Pechlin of James Island, SC; four sisters: Kay Jarvis Hodge of Bland, VA; Lavonne Jarvis Gibson of Rocky Gap, VA; Patty Jarvis Tickle of Longwood, FL; and Teresa Conley Martin of Houston, TX; four grandchildren: Kristin Deanne LaRoche Ciallella and her husband Jim of Greenville, SC; Adam Matthew LaRoche of James Island, SC; and their father, Robert Benjamin LaRoche, Jr. of James Island, SC; Carly Leanne Tucker of James Island, SC; Sadie Grace Tucker of James Island, SC; and their father, Larry Carlyle Tucker, Sr. of Johns Island, SC; brother-in-law, Van Fleming of James Island, SC; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and Masonic Home kids. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Dottie Jarvis Brown; two brothers: Franklin Jarvis and Thornton Haskell Jarvis; brother-in-law, Eddie Hodge; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Shuler Fleming; and sister-in-law, Grace Fleming Knoechel and her husband Walter.

The relatives and friends of Phyllis are invited to attend a visitation at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services, Inc. 7475 Peppermill Parkway – E, North Charleston, SC, 29418. A funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 11:30 AM at Simplicity.
