Obituary of Donald Lozen

Mineman Chief Donald “Big Guy” Lozen, 80, passed away 26 December 2018 at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, SC. In recent weeks he was in the ICU battling complications caused by living a full and active life. Don was born 25 January 1938 in River Rouge, MI to Viola Louzon.

Despite spending most of his young life in foster care he gathered a large family of loved ones around him. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mona Lisa Lozen in Summerville, SC, and their three children Victor Glenn Lozen, Leilani Marie Maynard, and Donald Wayne Lozen as well as his son-in-law Joseph Earl Maynard Jr who he often thought of as a son. Additionally, he had four grandchildren Jason Glenn Lozen, Christopher Glenn Lozen, Abby Gail Maynard, Elijah Lee Martin and two great grandchildren Luke Nathaniel Lozen and Amelia Rose Lozen. He was also fortunate enough to have a loving relationship with his siblings Charles Price and Janet Heller.

On 13 April 1964, Don joined the US Navy where he honorably and proudly served his country for 30 years before retiring as a Mineman Chief Petty Officer. After retirement, he served his community as a Freemason and a Shriner. He dedicated much of his time transporting children to the Shriners Hospitals as a Road Runner. He was also the founder of the Dorchester Shrine Club’s annual Children’s Fishing Rodeo where he shared his love of nature and fishing with hundreds of children.

A visitation period for his family will be held on 30 December 2018 at 1:00 PM with a ceremony to be held at 2:00 PM. After the ceremony, his family invites you to celebrate his life with a pot luck dinner. All events will be held at the Summerville Masonic Lodge at 111 North Main Street Summerville, SC 29483. Casual attire is requested. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Shriners Hospital for Children in his honor would be greatly appreciated.
