Obituary of Orland Mays Owen Jr
Orland Mays Owen, Jr., 74, of Charleston, S.C., husband of Orena Schulz Owen, passed away at MUSC on Thursday, February 14, 2019 surrounded by family.
Orland “Skip” Owen was born in Charleston, SC to Orland Mays, Sr. and Willie Lee Hayes Owen, November 30, 1944. He was a graduate of Murray Vocational High School and continued his education through the Citadel and Clemson University. He was a retired Special Education Teacher at Middleton High School, Cooper River Education Occupation Center (CREOC)and the owner of Owen’s Lawn Mower Service. Skip was a Past Master of Strict Observance Lodge #73 in West Ashley and was a member of Mariner Lodge #2 as well as the Scottish Rite and York Rite. He was a member of and Deacon in North Bridge Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Orena Schulz Owen, a daughter, Kathryn Owen Borrero of Charleston, SC, a son, Orland Mays (Heath) Owen, III of Springfield, SC as well as five grandchildren, Allyson and Brandon Borrero and Rebecca, Turner and William Owen.
Arrangements are being made through Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services and a memorial service will be announced at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the American Lung Association, MUSC Hollings Cancer Center or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
