Obituary of Joseph Bennie

Joseph John Bennie, 76, of Summerville, passed away in the early morning of February 22, 2019. Joseph was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Salvatore and Maria Bennie.

                Joseph was an employee of the New York City Transit Authority for 25 years as an Air Brake Maintainer. He was well known as being a hard worker and loving family man. Joseph served six years in the Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War where he worked on his beloved Air Craft Carrier The USS Independence. Joseph enjoyed 50’s doo-wop music which he loving shared with his grandchildren. He enjoyed collecting and shooting guns later on in years. He was known to all who met him for his kindness, friendliness, and warm nature.

                He is predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Maria Bennie and his brother Frank Bennie. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Celia Bennie, daughters Michele James and Claudia Thorpe, son Joseph Frank Bennie, and sister Angie Bennie Wisnewski. He is the grandfather of eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
