Obituary of Robert Gibbs

Robert Gibbs was born January 9, 1944 to the late Rev. James J Gibbs and Lottie Fickens Gibbs of Ravenel, SC. He transitioned from this earthly life on Monday, February 25, 2019. Robert was affectionately known to his nieces and nephews as “Super Fly”. Robert was educated in the public school system of Charleston County. He devoted most of his career to Forklift driving in New Jersey. Robert was a member of Lovely Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he sang on the Choir and served as an Usher. In his free time he enjoyed pool tournaments and spending time with family. On April 16, 2016 Robert married Orcora Johnson; through this marriage he lovingly inherited four daughters Constance Jackson (Eddie), Consuela Drayton (Kim Sr.), Corliss Johnson (Raymond), Octavia Tousseau and one son Jerry Jermaine Johnson Sr.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved parents, sisters: Lydia Laura, Mattie Mae and Evangelist Dora Watkins (Christopher) all of Ravenel, SC. Brothers: Rufus S. Gibbs (Mary) also of Ravenel and Leroy Gibbs, Sr. (Dorothy) of Jersey City, NJ. Robert leaves to cherish his memory: Wife, Daughter: Tawanna Gibbs, Jersey City, NJ, Inherited Children, Siblings: Earlene Dover (Leon), Ethel Nelson (John) and James Gibbs of Johns Island, SC; Betty Watkins (Benjamin) of Charleston, SC, Willie Gibbs (Julia) of Ravenel, SC, a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Home-Going Services for the late Mr. Robert Gibbs will be Monday March 4, 2019 12 pm Lovely Hill Missionary Baptist Church 670 Bear Swamp RD. Johns Island, SC 29455       Pastor Michael A. Wright Sr. Johns Island, SC Presiding. Viewing will be allowed 1 hour prior to start of service.
