Obituary of Gregory Eugene Funk
Gregory Eugene Funk, 40, was born on November 21, 1978 in Oberlin, Ohio. He passed away on March 6, 2019 at Trident Medical Center. Greg is survived by his sons, Nathan Funk and Phinneas Funk, age 9; mother, Anne D. Funk; brother, Geoffrey Funk; niece, Deva Funk; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Greg lived in Wellington, Ohio until the age of four, when family then moved to Panama City, Florida, where he grew up. Greg was an International Baccalaureate graduate of Rutherford High School. He completed his academic studies at Gulf Coast Community College. Greg worked as an assistant chef in Tallahassee, Florida for two years and then moved to Charleston, South Carolina to attend Johnson and Wales University to study culinary arts. He decided to leave the culinary arts field and embarked on his career at Verizon Wireless where he was employed until his death.
Greg was a bright, talented, artistic, and imaginative person. He had a lifelong interest in Star Wars and Marvel Super Hero figures. He amassed a huge collection of action figures, comic books, and movies. As his sons, Nathan and Phinneas, grew older they shared their Dad’s interests, and the three of them played with action figures and watched movies together.
Greg will be deeply missed. He was a unique individual. He had an engaging personality and was a humorous and fun person to be with. He was very much a true and compassionate friend. He was devoted to the people in his life. In return, he was loved by his family and friends.
