Obituary of Claudia Starnes Antley

Claudia Starnes Antley, 59, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away March 21, 2019, at Roper Hospice Cottage.

Claudia was born March 25, 1959 in North Charleston, South Carolina. She was the adopted daughter of Mary O. Miles (Johnson) and Clarence E. Starnes, and step-daughter of Joseph M. Miles.

Claudia worked most of her life in the marine and industrial diesel industry. Later in life, she found joy in pet sitting and dog walking. Claudia had many passions in life, from history and travel to reading and penny slots. She was an avid learner and lover of NOVA; there was never a topic that did not peak her interest. Claudia was a great storyteller and could always bring a smile to anyone’s face. Most of all, Claudia loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and was extremely proud of their accomplishments.

Claudia is survived by her ex-husband and best friend, Richard B. Antley of Kershaw; daughter, Jessica E. McCarty, and her husband, Duane McCarty, of Williamsburg, Virginia; daughter, Mary D. Antley, and her husband, Sean Herpolsheimer, of Arlington, Virginia; son, Justin R. Antley, and his wife, Erica Hastings, of Charleston; and brother, Joseph M. Miles, and his children. Claudia was “Meme” to five grandchildren, Tristan McCarty, Richard McCarty, Joshua McCarty, Ethan Antley, and Emily Antley.

The family invites all who knew and loved Claudia to a memorial service celebrating her life on Friday, June 7, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services, 281 Treeland Drive, Ladson, South Carolina 29456.

Monetary donations can be made through their website under “Tributes & Memorials” at https://pethelpers.org/donate/; supply donations can be dropped off at 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, South Carolina 29412.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the 4th Floor staff of Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in West Ashley and to the staff of Roper Hospice Cottage in Mt. Pleasant.
