Obituary of Asako Draper

Asako Tammy (Matsubara) Draper, of North Charleston, South Carolina, born on November 28, 1943 in Okinawa, Japan, passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 75 on March 20, 2019 in Charleston, South Carolina. Asako was the widow of the late SSgt. Harrison E. Draper, whom she met in Okinawa while he was in the United States Marine Corps. They were later stationed in the U.S., where they started a family.   She is survived by her partner of 37 years, Nghia Tran; her daughters, Pamela Voluntad (Mark Voluntad), Melisa Lee, and Maiyumi Lenke (Ian Lenke); grandchildren, Jayson Voluntad, Maria Voluntad, Savannah Lee, Gavin Dutterer, Lainie Williams, Riley Williams, Jamison Williams, and Harrison Lenke; her sister-in-law, Ida Draper; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves behind her adored cat, Nana. She had a passion for going to professional wrestling matches, bowling, watching soap operas, and experimenting with cooking recipes she saw on cooking shows. Friends and family can pay their respects at the memorial service on Tuesday, March 26 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Simplicity Lowcountry Crematory & Burial Services, 7475 Peppermill Parkway, North Charleston, (843) 767-8057.
