Obituary of David John Lutzow
David John Lutzow (65) of Summerville, SC, passed away at Trident Medical Center on Sunday, April 7, 2019. Originally from Chicago, David and family moved to Summerville in 1997. He retired in 2013 after 29 years as an electronics engineer for the Navy at SPAWAR Systems Center in Charleston and the Naval Air Warfare Center in Indianapolis. David also served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps before earning his degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Dave’s passion was music and he began playing guitar at the age of 9. He played in a number of local bands in Charleston, Indianapolis, and Chicago. He was a skilled guitar repair person and an accomplished songwriter who enjoyed recording his own music. A few of his many songs can be heard at https://soundcloud.com/user-903969507 . He also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, riding his motorcyle and classic cars, and doing major home renovations. Always doing twelve things at the same time, his dynamic energy and enthusiasm for life will be sorely missed by his wife, children, siblings, and friends.
David is survived by his wife of 35 years Eileen (Enk) Lutzow; their daughter Kara Lutzow and son-in-law Kang-Jun Choi of South Korea; their son Eric Lutzow, Ensign U.S. Navy; Dave’s daughter Robin Rawlings of Idaho and her children; father Jack Lutzow and stepmother Louise; brother Gregory (Marie) Lutzow; sister Candace (Patrick) Felling; brother Dewey (Chrissy) Lutzow; brother Michael Lutzow; and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his mother Mary Lou Vomastek.
Friends and relatives are invited to celebrate Dave’s life with his family at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services Summerville on Thursday, April 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
