Obituary of Miguel Mattei
Miguel Mattei, 77, departed this life on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Roper Saint Francis Cottage. Mr. Mattei was born May 26, 1941 in Puerto Rico, the eldest of five children born to Maria and Bernardo Mattei.
He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. Mr. Mattei attended school in New York and joined the United States Navy after graduating high school. After service his time in the Navy he went on to work for the United States Postal Service in New York, from which he retired in 1997, after 32 years as a Postal Worker. Mr. Mattei leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Celestine Mattei; children, Michael Mattei of New York, Melissa Mattei of New Jersey, Miguel L. (Jenny) Mattei of North Carolina, and Esteban Mattei of South Carolina; step-children, Christopher Finklea of Virginia and Veronica Finklea of South Carolina; brothers, Robert (Aida) Velazquez and Tito Velazquez of South Carolina; sister, Esther (Dennis) Cordts of South Carolina; step-sister, Hilda (Angel) Velazquez of South Carolina; father-in-law, Sylvester Finklea; brother-in-law, Sylvester (Evelyn) Finklea, Jr.; sister-in-law, Betty (Calvin) Watkins of Alabama; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother.
Mr. Mattei’s family would like to thank the kind employees of Roper St. Francis hospital and Roper Hospice for their professionalism and care during this difficult time.
A funeral service will be held Thursday April 19 at 2:00 at Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation And Burial Services (281 Treeland Drive, Ladson, SC 29456). A viewing will take place one hour prior to the service.
