Eugene Miller

Obituary of Eugene Miller

Eugene Lawrence Miller was born the 2nd son of 5 children to Robert E & Doris Mount Miller on March 26, 1950. He grew up in downtown Charleston, SC, the Holy City, went to James Simmons School then on to River's High School & Murray Vocational School. He and his childhood friends formed the Sheridon's Band, which played all over the low country but especially at The famous Folly Pier starting for professional bands & during teen dances on the weekends there. I remember hearing their band advertised on The Mighty WTMA radio station & you can believe I went to see them play, even though I had no idea that we would become soulmates then. He was an active member of Rutledge Ave. Baptist Church where he was Mr. Intermediate. I met Gene there as a little girl visiting their church with my neighbor & friends. Our paths crossed many times throughout the years prior to us being set up by 2 of my High School girlfriends in 1971 after his 1st enlistment in the US Army ended. We dated for 3 years at which time he enrolled in the College of Charleston and got his College education. We married  on Jan. 5, 1974. In 1975, we decided for him to rejoin the US Army and was stationed at Ft Jackson in Columbia. I remember thinking that we would travel the world but Gene was so good at what he did that every time he got orders, the acting Generals would intervene & get his orders cancelled. He started his Military career in a missle site in Germany and his second time around he became a legal clerk with 548th Engineer Battalion, a part of 82nd Airborne until he was accepted into the Wildlife program then on to NCOIC of Facility Engineers where he was in charge of his troops & work orders all over Ft Jackson. He also became a Game warden for Ft. Jackson & Orangeburg County.  We never got to travel the world, he spent the rest of his military career right there at Ft Jackson until he was declared disabled by a Disability Board of his peers & Generals in 1985. After that he went to work at Savannah River Site with Wackenhut in Nuclear Security and stayed there  until that 1st heart attack that made him have to quit his Dog training career. and put him out on yet another disability. Our one and only daughter was born at Moncrief Army Hospital while we lived on Base on Feb 25, 1977,  Daddy's Little miracle Angel! Gene grew up staying with his Maternal Grandfather, Eugene Mount during the summers, which whom his 1st name was given and his middle name was given to him for his Faternal Grandfather, Lawrence Miller. We bought Papa Mount's house & property in Cope, SC to care for him in Jan 1979 and he became 3rd generation Dog trainer where we trained Duck & Dove Retrievers, General & Polished Obedience for more than 20 years at his beloved Miller Lake Kennels until that 1st heart attack. On Oct 5th, 1998 our 1st Grandson, Hunter, Gene's little man was born, which was the son he never had and on June 20, 2003, our 2nd Grandson, Chance came along. Gene loved his boys with everything in his being.  Gene lived his life as a true Christian, he loves God & is now sitting by His right hand. He leaves behind me, his loving wife, our daughter Rachel, our 2 Grandsons (Hunter & Chance), his Mother Doris Miller, 3 brothers (Bobby, Ricky & Bruce), his only little sister Lori, many niece's & nephews, Aunt's, Uncle's, cousins,  his lifelong brothers/friends Eddie Lukow, John Sawadski, David Owens, Lewis Doscher as well as all the other friends he made in his life time. unfortunately in 2017 Gene experienced a massive heart attack which left him with Vascular Dementia and later diagnosed with Alzheimer. Heart Failure, Congestive Heart Failure, COPD, and Kidney Failure came shortly after & in March, right before his 69th Birthday of this year End Stage Renal Failure hit him and he was sent home to be in Hospice care where he was made as comfortable as possible until our Heavenly Father had his place prepared for him on  Monday, April 22, 2019 at 1:30 PM. He will be greatly missed by many but especially by me! Gene is whole again, with God and all our loved ones in Heaven. Love y'all dearly, y'all will forever be my family.
