Obituary of John Brown

John “Johnny” L Brown June 29, 2019

In Loving Memory

John was born on July 12, 1946 in Oklahoma to Baptist Minister, Wilbur and wife, Iceal Brown, having 4 other siblings.  He was of Shoshone, Cherokee and Chiricahua descent, and stated that he was a “mutt” otherwise.  His mother passed away when he was only 3 years old.  A few years later, his father married Elsie Marie.  John’s family relocated from Oklahoma to California.  John worked in construction, and when he was with the Comac Cable Company, he was relocated to Charleston, SC where he established his roots and remained.  He later took work in the trucking industry, several years with Yellow Freight.  After retirement, he chose to drive for Goodwill part-time.  John was heavily involved for 25 years with the SC Shriners, Hillbilly Clan #82, and took great pride in their philanthropic philosophies.  He was also an avid deep-sea fisherman.  John was well-loved and recognized for his barbeques/cookouts and country boils, and his deep-fried turkeys.  He also enjoyed time with his fur-kids, leaving behind his beloved pug, Jasmine.  John “almost made it” to his 73rd birthday, but succumbed to a major heart attack June 29, 2019.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Iceal, and Step-mother, Marie; his wife, Shirley Brown; his brother, Pete Brown; his sister, Ellen McNeil; his brother Jim Dale Brown: and sisters-in law, Colleen Brown and Allie Brown.

He is survived by brothers Bill Brown, and David Brown; his first wife, Gloria Lynne Johnson; his daughters Tami Hebein, Lori Jin, Jennifer Lynn Brown Johnson, and Stepson, Robert Vincent; nephew Brad McNeil; several nieces and nephews; and grandchildren, Amanda Dawson, Nick Hebein, and Brandan Jin. John arranged for cremation services and a scattering-at-sea near Folly Beach, SC at a private ceremony.
