Joseph Scheeler

Obituary of Joseph Wayne Scheeler

Joseph Wayne Scheeler, Sr. passed away July 13, 2019 in Johns Island, SC.  He was 55 years old.

Born in Peoria, IL on December 8, 1963, Joe was the youngest son of Russell and Caryl Scheeler of Dunlap, IL. He attended Dunlap schools and, after graduation from Dunlap HS, he enlisted, and honorably served, in the United States Navy and Navy Reserve.  Joe spoke often of the places he visited, the people he met, and the many things he learned during his service. He is a member of the American Legion Post 147 in James Island, SC. Joe relocated briefly to Chicago after his discharge and later moved to coastal South Carolina. He worked in commercial maintenance, as an electrician, and performed renovations in homes on the barrier islands of Kiawah and Seabrook.  Joe was a hard worker and could build or repair almost anything. He credited his Father’s instruction and being raised on Scheeler Farm for his work ethic. He enjoyed cooking on his grill, tinkering in his shop, working on his project car, and spending time with friends and family, especially his children. Known for his sense of humor, gentle nature, and compassion, Joe was a quiet man. He knew the Lord personally and would read aloud when a verse or passage touched his heart.  He loved the ocean and would spend time in reflection and quiet contemplation looking out across the waves. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Caryl Scheeler and his brother, Toby.  He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Tamara of Johns Island SC, 3 sons; Daniel of Raleigh NC, Joseph, Jr. and Christian of Johns Island SC, 3 stepchildren; Melanie Taylor (TJ) of New Port Richey FL, Scott Soles of Charleston SC, and Bethany Adams (Damien) of Johns Island SC, 2 brothers; Stephen (and Sue) Scheeler and Rex (and Cindy) Scheeler of Dunlap, 3 sisters; Kayleen (and Mike) Craft of Grove OK, Marlyn (and Dennis) of Edwards, and Margaret (and Scott) Lindell of Morton, and several nieces and nephews. He was Papa Joe to 7 grandchildren with the 2 youngest calling him Pop Pop.
