David Pierce LaFontaine

 

David, 71, formerly of Westwood, Massachusetts and most recently of Tega Cay, South Carolina passed away peacefully early Tuesday, September 17th, 2019 vacationing on Kiawah Island in South Carolina surrounded by family and people that loved him.

 

Born February 14th, 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late George David LaFontaine and Phyllis (Pierce) LaFontaine. Following graduation from Manter Hall School in Cambridge, MA he furthered his education at the University of Vermont. David earned a degree in Business Administration from which he retired in 2005 having served most of those years as a certified purchasing manager in hospitals and Bio-Technology.

 

The joy of David’s life was his family. He adored his wife, MaryAnne, whom he married on June 17th, 1979. He was also a devoted father and grandfather who coached and attended all school and sports activities for his children over the years, cheering fiercely at every event. He was blessed to have traveled the world and had his fair share of adventures and leaves behind friends and family all over the world.

 

He enjoyed his time spent in Vermont with family and friends by Lake Champlain, following any and all sports especially the Olympics, skiing Jay Peak and fishing the Black Falls in Montgomery. David was an active advocacy volunteer for AARP for many years.

 

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, MaryAnne (Neeves) LaFontaine, three children Gary LaFontaine (Joanna) of Sugarland, Texas, Amy LaFontaine Porter (Derek) of Mount Pleasant, North Carolina and Alec LaFontaine (Abby) of York, South Carolina; five beloved grandchildren, Alannah LaFontaine, Patrick LaFontaine, Thomas Porter, Tenley LaFontaine and Kate Porter and welcoming his sixth grandchild any day; as well as his brothers Ric LaFontaine of Tampa, Florida, James LaFontaine (Betsy) Beverly, Massachusetts and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins.
