Sherry Wabel Watkins, 68, of Mount Pleasant, SC, and formally Newnan, GA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, following an illness. Sherry was the daughter of Floyd and Delores Wabel, and the second of six daughters. Sherry is proceeded in death by her parents Floyd and Delores Wabel and sister Terrie Martin. She is survived by her daughter Heather Butler of Newnan, GA; Son Heath Watkins of Charleston, SC; Daughter Holly Watkins and Daughter-in-law Crystal Bradley of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Sisters Denise Boyd of Lexington, KY; Joni Coward (Tab Coward) of Graniteville, SC; Dawn Pica of Fort Payne, AL; Pennie Day (Zack Day) of Augusta, GA. Grandchildren Mallorie Watkins, Emilie Watkins, and Cody Watkins of Dickinson, TX; Chance Watkins of Mount Pleasant, SC. She had many nieces and nephews near and dear to her heart. Sherry’s love reached beyond titles of the traditional “family”. Many knew her more in roles of their mother or as “Mee-Mee”.

Sherry had many careers including full-time stay at home mother of three, and devoted follower of Christ. She was a Real Estate Agent, Legal Secretary, Flight Attendant, and Director of Transitions and Acquisitions at Absolute Storage Management (ASM) from which she retired.

She was the rock that held the family together and she showed kindness and love to everyone she met.

Her favorite poem was:

“The Dash” by Linda Ellis

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend.

He referred to the dates on her casket from beginning to the end.

He noted that first came the date of her birth and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth and now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own, the cars, the house, the cash,

What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard; Are there things you would like to change?

For you never know how much time is left that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough to consider what is true and real

and always try to understand the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger and show appreciation more

and love the people in our lives like we have never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile,

Remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.

So when your eulogy is being read with your life’s actions to rehash…

Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash?
