Obituary of Walter Raleigh White

Walter Raleigh White, Jr., 88, died peacefully in the pre-dawn hours of December 11, 2019.  Walter was born on March 3, 1931, in Florence, South Carolina. He was the son of Walter R. White and Rosa V. White. He grew up in Manning, South Carolina and graduated from Manning High School. He had attended his 75th high school reunion in the summer of 2018. Walter retired from a 36-year career in civil service as a rigger at the Charleston Naval Shipyard.

Walter lived in Mount Pleasant recently after spending forty-five years as a resident of Moncks Corner. He was faithful member of St. Johns Bethel Baptist Church. There, he enjoyed many friendships and the peacefulness of his Christian faith. He most enjoyed driving out into the countryside on Sundays and to have dinner at several favored restaurants with friends.

Walter is survived by two special people who took care of his needs late in life – his brother-like friend, Allen Ballentine, and his step-daughter, Amanda McQueeney. Together they brought daily comfort and happiness to his declining years. Among those to be appreciated are the kind staff at the Palms Senior Living Community, his caregivers, and especially the well-wishers from his church who paid many visits to Walter though the distance was great. He loved them all.

It was Walter’s wish that in lieu of flowers any donations of commemoration should go to St. Johns Bethel Baptist Church, 133 St. Johns Bethel Street, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. Walter’s memorial arrangements are being handled by Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services.
