Obituary of Eugene Vernon Black

Mr. Eugene “Vern” Vernon Black III, 59, husband of Gwendolyn Dennison Black, died Saturday, December 28, 2019, at The Community Care Center, in the VA hospital, in Charleston

 

Mr. Black was born June 14, 1960, in Greenville, a son of the late Eugene “Gene” Vernon and Retha Gail Neeley Black Carey. He studied at Williamsburg Academy, Kingstree Senior High, and Socastee High and was a United Air Force veteran. . Vern was in HVAC work for a number of years, before opening and operating the Dueling Ground in Socastee, SC. He was also an avid member of the Society of Creative Anachronism. Vern enjoyed  gaming and meeting new friends  through social platforms . Vern loved his wife, children, granddaughter, his dog Foxy Brown, and his cat Stinker.

 

Surviving Mr. Black, in addition to his wife Gwen, are: his children Eugene V. “Gene” (Kristen) Black IV of Socastee and Joseph G. (Christine)Black of Socastee , his granddaughter, Lilian Charlotte Gail Black and his siblings William W. “Bill” (Debbie) Black of Longs, Retha “Lana” B.(Chuck) Pinion, of Lake City, and Laura Gail (James) Morris of Timmonsville.

 

In addition to his parents, Vern was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Bryan Black.

A memorial service will be held at a future date, to be announced, at the pond in Kingstree, SC.

Memorials may be sent to the Ralph H Johnson VA medical center in Charleston, SC.
