Obituary of Thomas Meade McWethy

Thomas “Tommy” Meade McWethy, 62, of Awendaw, South Carolina, peacefully passed away on the evening of January 22, 2020 at Roper St. Francis Hospital in West Ashley, South Carolina surrounded by family.

Mr. McWethy was born in Charleston, South Carolina on February 19, 1957 to William W and Mildred F Chichester McWethy.  He attended Chicora High School and was later accepted into Baptist College at Charleston in Charleston County.

Mr. McWethy’s love for the outdoors and thrill of adventure carried on with him throughout his life from the time of his days as an Eagle Scout.  His attraction to nature guided him to pursue his interests in horticulture. He developed a wealth of knowledge about plants and gardening which also led to him becoming a great cook and commodity around the kitchen.  Mr. McWethy loved being around family, friends, good music and great food.  His fearless and light-hearted outlook on life as well as his passion for Clemson and Miami Dolphin football will be remembered by all who knew him.

Left to share his memories, Mr. McWethy has

two sons, Corey McWethy Lee and his wife, Syntha, Tyler McWethy and his wife, Britney.  Three granddaughters, Harper, Virginia, and Easley, with a fourth one on the way!  Three surviving brothers, Michael, William Jr, and Richard McWethy. One sister, Emma Piercey.  As well as numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”- Hunter S Thompson
