Obituary of Jacquelyn Edith Harris

Mrs. Jacquelyn Edith Harris, (Beveridge) age 77, passed away Saturday, March 14th in her home following a long illness.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, John David Harris, two brothers, Gary and Craig Beveridge, three children, Johnathan, of Oklahoma ,his children: Keira, Juan (Tony), David, and Bella, Jennifer, of Goose Creek, her children: Jonell, Jenay, Jeremie, Jocelynne, and Jason and wife Rikki, from Idaho, his children: Jordon and  stepson Christian along with six great grandchildren.

Jacquelyn was born in Bellaire, Ohio on December 20, 1942 to Jack and Ella Mae Beveridge. Being a gifted student, and through an Ohio Teacher Cadet program she was allowed to begin teaching, with a provisional certificate, in public schools two years before her high school graduation from Bellaire High. After high school she attended Ohio University and received her official teacher degree and certificate. She then began her teaching career in 4th grade and attended Capitol University Music Conservatory, with a major in voice and strings performance (violin). Years before, Jacquelyn was named Concert Mistress for the Wheeling, West Virginia Junior Symphony Orchestra, and now sang with the Columbus Symphony Chorus.

During her school’s winter break in 1970, Jacquelyn flew out to visit her brother, Gary, who was stationed at the San Diego, Naval Base. While there he introduced her to “Harry” Harris who soon became the love of her life and her husband. She and David were married the following February. During the course of their marriage while David rose in command they moved quite often. He served in California, Hawaii, Washington District of Columbia, Japan and finally South Carolina where he attained the rank of master chief. She was right by his side during all his deployments, and taught in the American school while in Japan. Upon their return to the states Jackie worked as a substitute teacher, teacher’s aide, band director, school newsletter and yearbook editor and in-school suspension coordinator. Everyplace she lived she pursued her musical passion, by directing church choirs, the Charleston Choral Society, and teaching.

Jackie was loved by one and all, for her quiet, loving nature, her integrity, for her love of music, family and God. As one of her colleagues aptly put it, “We miss your sunshine! You are so loved.”
