Obituary of Thelma Jean Peifer

Thelma Jean Peifer, 81, of Ladson South Carolina passed away peacefully in her home at 4:30 pm on Saturday April 22, 2017. She was born September 16, 1935 in Farnam, Nebraska and raised in Kearney, Nebraska. Daughter of Stanley James and Eunice Emiline Metcalf. She is survived by husband of 55 years Clarence Richard “Rick” Peifer, married June 16, 1962 in Burbank, CA. Also surviving are their children Susan Roxanne Wheaton (husband Tom Wheaton), Christine Rene’ Peifer, and Michael Dean Peifer (wife Renate Yost Peifer) as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Neil Metcalf of Castle Rock, CO and sisters Marilyn Scott of Amherst, NE and Kathleen Bailey of Kearney, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Gale Metcalf and Floyd Metcalf, as well as two sisters Wilma Kneher and Virginia Berry. Thelma was a loyal and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family was truly paramount for her. She dedicated her life to those she loved, filling her home with photos and memorabilia symbolizing her deep devotion. She was ever kind, generous, and forgiving to all that she accepted as family. She was quick witted, fun loving, enjoyed humorous novelties and her countless gadgets. She was a skilled seamstress, gifted at making, altering and repairing clothes; always innovative and creative at making due with little. She knew what it meant to be without and made sure that her family was well cared for always. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and games with the family, and loved spending time outside appreciating God’s magnificence; her favorites: butterflies, flowers and birds. There will be an informal memorial gathering Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 2:30 – 4:30pm in The Extension at Northwoods Assembly Church, 4020 2nd Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483. The family is eternally grateful to Hospice for their kind and generous care during Thelma’s recent struggle, as well as the many kind Doctors and Nurses that have cared for her at Trident Hospital and Summerville Medical Center. In lieu of flowers you may wish to donate to your local Hospice or Thelma’s preferred charity, The Salvation Army.
