Obituary of Violet Gunnells

Violet Gunnells went home to Jesus on July 24^th, 2020 at age 87 surrounded by her family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  

Violet was born to John Benjamin Sanders and Helen Dayton Polk Sanders on January 14^th, 1933 in Tillman, SC and was the youngest of 8 children.    

In addition to being, a dedicated and loving wife, mother and nana, Violet was also a dedicated nurse. She graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing and worked at St. Francis Xavier Hospital as a registered nurse for over 50 years. Throughout Violet's entire life, she had a passion for nursing and held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who she cared for. 

Violet joins her husband Harrison Kenneth Gunnells, Sr., and siblings Louis Drawdy, Letha Carter, JB Sanders, Red Sanders, Helen Popham, Oswald Sanders, and Barbra Warren in Heaven. She is survived by her son Harrison Kenneth Gunnells, Jr., daughter in law Nancy Floyd Gunnells, grandchildren Elizabeth Ashley Kelly, Harrison Kenneth Gunnells, III, Bethany Ashton Gunnells, and great granddaughter Fiona Grace Kelly.

A memorial celebrating Violet’s life will be held Wednesday August 12^th at 3pm at Simplicity Funeral Home- 7475 Peppermill Pkwy, North Charleston, SC 29418. The family will receive condolences from 2pm-3pm.
