Obituary of Leonard Carl Spurlock
Leonard Carl Spurlock passed away peacefully at his home in Charleston South Carolina, on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, unexpectedly after a brief battle with an aggressive form of COPD and lung cancer. He was 70 years old.
Leonard was born on February 5, 1950 on his family’s farm in Waynesburg, Kentucky. He was the 10th of 12 children born to Ida Turner Spurlock and Thomas Spurlock.
Leonard leaves behind numerous loving friends and family members. He is survived by his three children, Bryan Travis Spurlock, Audrea Nicole Spurlock, and Clifford Aaron Spurlock. He has 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren and is also survived by 7 siblings; Geneva Agoston, Harvey Spurlock, Mary Cater, Jim Spurlock, Pauline Spurlock, Lynne Denney, and Betty Spurlock-Stephens. He is predeceased by his parents, and 4 of his siblings; Kenneth Richard, Robert Paul, Rita Ramona Brandon, and Loretta Krout.
He studied creative writing and was known as a very talented writer. He was a good friend to many across the nation, a beloved brother, father, and son. He will be remembered as a man of many talents, who held dozens of careers and lived in dozens of places throughout the United States. He was a free thinker, open minded, and his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
At his request, his remains were cremated. A formal funeral service was not possible due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the inability of family members to travel such great distances during the pandemic. Therefore, the family hopes to hold a memorial service in the near future, at the family farm in Kentucky, where a portion of his ashes will be spread.
