Obituary of John Paul Swagel

On October 08, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer John Paul Swagel, 65, born Feb. 16, 1955, son of the late Peter P. and Mozelle W. Swagel joyfully left the sufferings of these last few weeks behind and went to meet his Maker.

He is survived by his wife of 46 yrs Debra Dawson Swagel, two of his sons Alan (Roxanna) and Joe (Katie) Swagel, six grandchildren Shelby, Nicholas, Jacob, Hailie, Aiden and Remington Swagel. Also special to him are E, Rusty, Payton, Landen and Tanner Ritchie, Mother-in-law Marlene Dawson, brother-in-law Grady Dawson (Beanie) and sisters-in-law Kathy Meadows (Danny) and Jennifer Beach (Todd). Nieces Patti Dawson, Jessica Bizzell (Aaron), Amy Galle (Peter), Mackenzie Beach, Kristyna Fillbright (Christopher) and nephews Kyle Dawson, Dawson Beach, TJ Houge, Jeremy Kuzmic and Ananda Galle.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first born son John Swagel Jr and father-in-law Malone Dawson.

He was blessed to share his path in life with a loving supportive family and with special friends that shared his love of all things outdoors. 

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 Monday October 19, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 510 St. James Ave Goose Creek SC 29445, masks are required. Burial will be private. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. John Catholic Church and School 3921 St. Johns Ave N. Charleston SC 29405, the place that, in addition to his home, had a major influence instilling in him a deep faith in and love of God that never left him.
