Obituary of Frank Tanzer

Frank Tanzer, age 86, died of natural causes in his daughters' company on Feb. 4, 2021, in Bluffton, SC.

Frank had a long and wonderful life.  He was the only child of Frank and Anna Tanzer of Clifton, NJ.  He enlisted with the Army and served in the Army band in Hawaii, playing various instruments and singing in Four Freshmen-type groupings.  After discharge, he worked for Western Electric in Atlanta, where he met his wife, Juanita.  They moved back to Clifton.  While their daughters were born, he sold postage meters during the day for Tele-Norm while earning a B.S. at night from the College of Business Admin. of Fairleigh Dickinson University.  In 1970 he moved his family to Atlanta/Stone Mountain, GA.

Atlanta started its growth as a convention city, and Frank started Tanzer Productions, a company producing world-class entertainment for conventions.  He would book the A-list entertainers of the day and often emcee the shows.  Comedians and magicians booked numerous times over the years would become some of his closest friends and would often visit the house.  Frank continued to work as a musician.  He particularly liked playing his alto sax in dance bands or his clarinet or accordion in Oktoberfest gigs.  He played for fun for years, enjoying his friends in the Callanwolde Concert Band.

He spent every Saturday morning he could at the Stone Mountain Airport flying his Alon Aircoupe airplane and meeting other aircraft enthusiasts.  He enjoyed riding motorcycles.  He had a workshop and could fix anything.

After retirement, he and Juanita moved to Hilton Head, SC.  They lived in their dream home in Folly Field and walked to the beach almost every day.  They attended St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church.

Frank is survived by his wife of 62 years, Juanita, who resides in memory care at Benton House of Bluffton, SC.  He has two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Howard Paul of Savannah, GA, and Arlene and Mark Stovall of St. Simon’s Island, GA.  Frank delighted in his three grandsons, Lee Stovall, Mac Stovall, and Andrew Paul.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will not be a public service.
