Obituary of Gerald Mall

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather Gerald “Gerry” Mall, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Callwawassie Island, SC, on Thursday, May 13th 2021, after a short, but courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. His beloved wife of 59 years, Joan, was by his side.

Born on August 13, 1940, in Buffalo, NY, Gerry grew up surrounded by his family and loved time spent skiing with his uncles, playing golf and riding his bicycle.

Gerry studied engineering at Erie Technical College and earned an Industrial Engineering degree, and had a successful career at companies such as Fisher Price Toys and The Continental Can Company, Fiber Drum Division.

Gerry married his sweetheart, Joan and together raised three wonderful children. After stints in Atlanta, GA, and Van Wert, Ohio, Gerry brought the family to Charlotte, NC. Many fond memories were made at their home on Raintree Lane where they lived for 22 years and called "home".

While in Charlotte, Gerry and Joan founded the Sport Port, a successful chain of sporting goods stores that focused on youth sports in the Charlotte area. The store in the UNCC area of Charlotte focused on university apparel and fraternity and sorority items.

After selling off the last of their Sport Port stores, Gerry and Joan retired and moved to Hobe Sound, Florida where they lived for 5 years before building their dream home on Callawassie Island.

Gerry spent his retirement years enjoying time with his grown children and grandchildren. He will always be remembered for cruising the paths of Callawassie in a golf cart, with a grandchild on his lap and their dog by his side. He also loved visiting with his neighbors and working out at the exercise facility, where he went every day until he was no longer able to.

Gerry is survived by his beloved wife Joan, his loving children Deborah, Kimberly, and Scott , Scott’s wife Julie, and his Grandchildren Joshua and Erin for whom Grampy was always a larger-than-life figure.

In lieu of gifts and flowers, the family asks that instead you consider a donation to the GHC Hospice an organization that provided much support and comfort during Gerry’s illness. Donation Detail - GHC Hospice 65 Schinger Ave Ridgeland, SC 29936
