Obituary of Mary Eugenia Aull Ridge

Mrs. Mary Eugenia Aull Ridge (Gene), 91, of Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on 11th June 2021. She was the loving wife of Dr. Harold James Ridge, Jr. for more than 73 years.

Gene was born January 27, 1930 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Dr. John C. Aull, Jr. and Emma Brown Aull.

She was a graduate of the College of Charleston majoring in History and English. She served as a longtime member of the SC. Dental Society Auxiliary and The Charleston Exchange Club’s Ladies Auxiliary. She was a long time member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston, SC. and a current member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Pomaria S.C.

She is survived by her two sons, L. James Ridge (Nancy) of Pomaria, SC, Jeff C. Ridge (Shelia) of Cleveland, SC, and a daughter, Eugenia Elizabeth Ridge, of Charleston. She was predeceased by her husband and her oldest son, John Greer Ridge.

Gene most enjoyed visits by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and loved a challenging puzzle or word games.

She was well known for her shrimp salad and crab cakes with ingredients sourced from her dock — but above all, loved the peace and solitude of her Bohicket River House. She is now at peace.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of Charleston staff and the team of personal care assistants, managed by Mrs. Joyce Ford for their kindness, love, and support.

The family will hold a private service at a later date.
