Obituary of Mable Bolchoz

The eternal soul of Mable Nelson Bolchoz has returned to her heavenly Father; joining her Redeemer and her dear departed loved ones. She was joyfully received on Thursday, July 22, 2021.

Mable is the granddaughter of Chief Andrew P. Nelson, Charleston County’s first chief of police, and Bertha Mitchem Nelson. She is the daughter of Robert A. Nelson and Ruth McClary Nelson and her wonderful stepmother, Annie Carroll Nelson.

Mable was born January 11, 1932 at 28 Mary Street, Charleston, SC; the last of three beautiful children. She grew to become a lovely young woman and met her one true love, Robert H. Bolchoz, Sr. They were joined in marriage April 12, 1953 and their union produced three cherished children; Barbara Tilden, Robert Bolchoz, Jr. and Nancy White.

Mable attended Courtenay School and Charleston High and worked at the Cigar Factory and Kerrison’s Department Store, but it was her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend that truly captured the hospitable, generous soul that she was. Her door was always open and there was always an extra chair or two to be pulled up to a table filled with her delicious creations. When you walked through her door you felt instantly at home. No wonder she was led to join the local chapter of a women’s sorority, Beta Sigma Phi; a sisterhood of women dedicated to loving, sharing and caring for each other and many others outside of their organization. She served in many capacities and on multiple occasions as President, Woman of the Year and Valentine Queen. She participated in and oversaw many charitable events. She was fun loving and generous, and although petite, a force to be reckoned with.

Mable is predeceased by and now united with her grandparents, parents, stepmother, her aunt, Mabel Nelson, her brother, Andrew Nelson, her sister, Bertha Nelson Cox, her son, R. Henry Bolchoz, Jr., and her nephew, Mark T. Cox.

Mable leaves behind many who love her deeply and she will be missed beyond measure. She is survived by her beloved husband, “Bobby”, her daughter, Nancy Zindars White and Nancy’s children, Lee Pepin, Sonja Zindars, Jessica Zindars Gibson and Jared Zindars; her daughter, Barbara Tilden and Barbara’s children, Allisun Chronister and Shaun Chronister; her great grandchildren, Aeiral, Alicia, Daniel, Eli, Isaac, Jazmine, Morgan, Payton, Roxanne, Sidney, Tanner and Zachery; her nieces and nephews, Margie Cox Stanbrook, Andrew Nelson, Henry Nelson, JoAnn Mosser, David Cox and Robert Nelson and her four legged very best friend, Rocky.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating and honoring Mable’s life to be held at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services, 7475 Peppermill Parkway, North Charleston, Saturday August 7, 2021 at 2pm. A brief graveside Service will follow at Live Oak Cemetery, 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC. A reception will follow. There Mable’s earthly remains will be laid to rest beside her beloved son, Henry, and her dear sweet sister, Bertha. The services will be officiated by Pastor Steve Fowler-Vaughn of Revive Charleston Church. Dates and times will follow.
