Obituary of Eileen Elizabeth Austin

Eileen E. Austin

Eileen Elizabeth Austin

Born: May 17, 1933  (Chicago, IL)

Died: August 29, 2021 ( Mt. Pleasant, SC)

Eileen E. Austin passed into heaven on August 29, 2021. Born to Pearl Trachsal Dryer and Walter Dryer on May 17, 1933. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Walter and Mark Dryer and sisters LaVerne Bresnahan, Diane Kincaid, Carole Lehmann.

Eileen was a hardworking and fun loving mother of three children, all of whom remember her as a loving ,strong willed presence who lived life to its fullest.  She always cared for others and their feelings more than her own. She was kind and generous to anyone who entered her life. She was often referred to as the “Hallmark Mom”, for the dozens and dozens of cards she sent to family and friends each year. She never forgot a birthday, an anniversary, or to check in with anyone who was ill. She was always there for her children and was their biggest fan and cheerleader. You didn’t want to get in between this mama bear and her three cubs!

Eileen worked as a customer ticket agent on the Illinois Central Railroad for over 20 years in Chicago,Illinois.  She loved people and always remembered fondly her customers and enjoyed putting a smile on their faces.  After moving to San Antonio, Texas, Eileen worked as a secretary to the principal at Regency Elementary School.  She made many life-long friends at Regency and loved seeing the children every day.

She is survived by her beloved children: Thomas Austin (and his wife Roxanne), Janis Austin Cummings, Jill Austin Brittingham (and her husband Bill), and two beloved grandchildren: Billy and Matt Brittingham, She also is survived by her brother Jeff Dryer (and his wife Becky) and many wonderful nieces and nephews all of whom she cared for deeply.

Eileen really enjoyed spending time sharing a laugh with her numerous friends and with her family.  She loved her trips to Hawaii with her children to celebrate her birthday and Mother’s Day. She enjoyed travel and was the first to say, “count me in!” for any cruise or trip. She loved to start her day with a morning coffee while burning up the cell phone checking in with everyone - yes, she was a talker!  She really enjoyed dining out, an evening glass of wine, reading, and playing games such as Rummikub with her friends. Simply, she loved life.

Our Mom’s soul is now at rest.  There will be a Celebration of Life Service for our Mom on September 25th, 2021 at Bethany United Methodist Church inside Spell Chapel 118 W. 3rd South Street Summerville, South Carolina 29483.
