Obituary of Mary Alice Surface

Mary Alice Spires grew up in Virginia and Alaska, and Alaska was her dream home and Shan-gri-la. She always wanted to return to that wonderful place however marriage to a Navy sailor named Larry Surface, and the arrival of her daughter Maria changed all that. The ambition of a return to Alaska was never realized. That didn’t stop her. Mary had a truly wide breadth of interests, and was never boring. She was outgoing, helping, a wonderful friend and a truly loving wife, and so her family and friends experienced her. We rejoiced in her life and deeply miss her now. She was a devout Catholic believer, and trusted in Christ every day of her life.

She is survived by her husband Larry, daughter Maria Surface, and brother Charles Brown of Pensacola, Florida.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Goose Creek, SC. The date and time will be announced later.
