Obituary of Teresa Nigro

Teresa Nigro of Johns Island , SC passed away on February 6th, 2022 at the age of 81 after enduring a long illness. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and was loved by so many. She had a heart of gold, and was very generous, especially to her family.

She would have been 82 years old in March, and has lived in Charleston, SC for the last couple of years, since moving here from North Carolina.

Teresa was born in Caserta, Italy in 1940, to Anthony and Concetta DeMarco, and was one of 10 children in the DeMarco family. Since the whole family could not move to the USA at the same time, she was one of the first siblings to move here with her brother and settled in the New York area, in 1956.

She met and then married Peter Nigro in 1958, in New Jersey where most of her family were settling. They had two children, Angelo and Marilyn and enjoyed their lives with family and friends. She was mostly a homemaker, but also worked as a seamstress for many years of her life. She was known throughout our family and friends for her big heart and love of entertaining, she loved to cook, and was exceptional.

In 1973, the Nigro family left NJ for a new life in South Florida, they settled in Margate, Fl, bought a new home, and began their next journey. She loved decorating her beautiful home, and enjoyed that most. She was not much into traveling, but instead loved to have friends and family over. She loved pets, especially her beloved dogs over the years, and treated them like one of her children.

She is predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Peter, (2009) and her beautiful daughter Marilyn at the age of 53, (2019).

She leaves behind her grieving son Angelo and wife Lisa, and Marilyn's husband, Frank Authenreith. Her loving grandsons, Chris Nigro and wife Katilyn, Michael Nigro and wife Holly, and Tyler Nigro, and her beautiful granddaughters, Jacqueline and Chloe Walczak. She also has three great grandchildren , Bryce and Brooks Nigro, and Gianna Nigro.

Teresa is also preceded in death by her loving brothers Alberto and Benito. Sister in laws, Vivian DeMarco, Angie DeMarco, Jenny Nigro, and Rosa Forrisi, and brother-in-laws, Mike Kopec, Peter Sabatini, and Luigi Forrisi.

She is survived by brothers Freddy ( Lena), Tommy ( Ida), Guido (Julia), Mike, Adolfo, Arnold (Enza) and one sister, Ida Kopec. She is also survived by her sister in law Carmela Sabatini, and brother in law Frank Nigro. Teresa came from such a large family, she also leaves behind numerous special nieces and nephews.

She has made very special friendships throughout her life, especially through her devotion to the Jehovah Witness Organization, which was a very large part of her life for over 40 years.

Although it has been very difficult without my mother, she is in a much better place, and missed immensely, we hope to see her again.

A memorial service is being planned for the near future.

The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to all of her caregivers and hospice throughout her illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a Humane Society near you, the Alzheimer's Association, or Hospice Organization.
