Obituary of Virginia C. Gray

Virginia C. Gray, aged 85, has passed away at home in Grays, SC, on March 9, 2022. Virginia is survived by her husband of 68 years, Lee Wayne Gray, by her son, Kenneth Gray of Dexter, GA, son, Jimmy Gray (Valerie) of Newark, DE, daughter, Jennifer Sykes (Barry) of Hoover, AL, daughter, Rebecca Saturday of Grays, SC, and son, Lee Gray (Lorri) of Caledonia, MS.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, Jasper King and Nannie Phillips, sister, Polly Edwards, brothers, Bobby King, Pete King and Ed King, and two granddaughters, Angela Hill and Shelley Brown. Survivors include her siblings, Dwayne King (Faye), Jane Oberley (Cleo), Mary Eppley (Jim), Billy King, eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Virginia was born in Double Springs, AL, on November 7, 1936. She had to leave school in the fifth grade to pick cotton. Upon raising her five children, at age 50 she obtained her GED. She loved her family and many friends and was an amazing cook and seamstress. She enjoyed playing games with her family. Her favorite games were cards and Rummikub. Prior to her illness, she was an active member of Spirit of Life Ministries in Varnville, SC.

Virginia’s ashes will be interred at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Double Springs, AL, in May 2022. The family will celebrate her life in a memorial service at that time.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org).
