Dennis Bruce

Obituary of Dennis Loring Bruce

Dennis L. Bruce passed away on Monday September 3rd after a courageous battle with cancer. Dennis died at his home in Goose Creek, South Carolina, at the age of 66.

Born March 30, 1952, in Alexandria, Virginia, he was the son of Roscoe L. Bruce and the late Joan Graci. Dennis grew up in central New York and graduated from Utica Free Academy in Utica, NY in 1970. Dennis enjoyed a 38-year career in the automotive business, owning and operating multiple dealerships. He settled at Cortland Chrysler Dodge Jeep in 1991, where he became General Manager and then part owner until his retirement in 2017. Dennis resided and raised his family in Homer, NY for more than 25 years, before retiring with his wife, Nancy in South Carolina.

Dennis was an avid sports fan and participant. He took great pride in coaching multiple sports teams and being involved with the close-knit Homer community. Over the years, Dennis coached his kids and many others in basketball, football, softball and baseball. His enthusiasm and passion really showed when he watched, played and coached baseball. He coached all levels from tee-ball up to American Legion, where he proudly served as Homer’s coach for six years. Dennis also enjoyed a day on the golf course, and if he were here today, he might boast about his two hole-in-ones. His love for sports and the traits developed through playing them have left a lasting impression on his loved ones. Dennis enjoyed watching all sports and especially cheering on the Syracuse Orangemen in the Carrier Dome.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Nancy (Ettinger), daughters Stacey Manderville of Summerville, SC, Katie Nacy (Jon) of Goose Creek, SC, his sons Brian Bruce (Cecilia) of Orlando, FL, and Michael Bruce (Lindsay) of Martinsburg, WV. Dennis was also blessed with four grandchildren: Brianna, Brayden, Sloane and Cameran. He is also survived by siblings Dave, Bill, Michelle and Michael, along with numerous extended family members and friends.

A memorial service is scheduled for Noon on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services in Ladson, SC. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dennis’ life.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial account has been set up for donations to support the Homer Recreation Department to carry on Dennis’ passion for sports.
