Obituary of Jean Parisie Johnston

Marie Jeanne “Jean” d’Arc Therese Parise Johnston of Summerville passed away peacefully on April 13th, 2022 at the age of 89. She entered into rest with her daughter at her bedside and was surrounded by family in her last days.

Jean was of Sicilian and French Canadian heritage and she channeled every bit of it into her delicious cooking. She was known for her delicious lasagna and her big pots of goulash that she would serve to all of her kids and grandkids during family visits.

Born in Lewiston, Maine, Jean married the love of her life William “Bill” Johnston Sr. in 1956. They lived all over the country eventually settling down in Summerville, SC to raise their three children. There, Jean dedicated many years to working at Southern Sisters bakery where she made the Benne Wafers and Lemon Coolers famous in the Lowcountry area.

Jean lived an incredible life and will be greatly missed by her family, who adored her. She is survived by her husband Bill Johnston Sr., her children William Johnston Jr. (Kammy) and Linda Johnston. Her grandchildren Nicole Johnston, Teresa Johnston, Jason Johnston, Melissa Johnston, Robbie Johnston, Joseph Weick, Julianna Johnston (Jeremy), Tyler Janssen (Tiffany), and MarcAnn Janssen, and her great-grandchildren Christopher, Nicole, Isabell, Mattie, Christian, Donovan, Preston, Eva, Alayna, Kayden, Johnathan, Bryan, Amelia, and Charlotte, and many more in her large extended family. She is preceded in death by her son, Robert “Bob” Johnston (Donna).
