My very handsome brother at age 10. You can see the spark! This is my favorite childhood photo of him. He is wearing his favorite shirt. This navy blue and white shirt was worn with a sort of male version of capris that were, in 1962 called "clam diggers."
He looked like he was taking out the yacht. Patty Goggin Ketels

My brother Tom was a warm person, generous, and gregarius, and wonderful. He, like our Mother, never met a stranger. As a kiddo he was inventive and into mischief constantly. I know. The worst spanking I ever received was because I was implicated by being near by. You know how if you can't figure out who all were involved, punish all who were there! Everything was always forgiven and we all lived to get in trouble another day. We had a wonderful childhood.
If you knew him well enough to be reading this, then I want you to know he cared about you. There is a particular way that he cared about you that I wish to tell you about. Tom and his family moved to South Carolina at Thanksgiving time. They quickly met many of their new neighbors because that is the way Tom and Mary Ann are. I have heard glowing reports about the friendliness of their new neighborhood. They were having dinner out with a couple thay had just met. Tom said, "If I die tomorrow, I know where I am going. Do you?" It became part of a larger conversation. Tom DID die the next day. If Tom had that concern for people while he was walking among us, his concern, now that he is in heaven, with a new perpective, can only be greater. Tom would want you to know that getting to heaven is not earned, it is a gift from God. We can never do enough good works to get into heaven. That is why Jesus died, to pay for our sin. It cost Jesus everything but it is free to us. Most of us have received a gift. We did not take our money out and try and pay the giver--to do so would have been an insult. Please do not insult God by trying to pay for a gift that was paid for with Jesus' blood. Reach out and receive salvation as the gift that it is and accept it. A gift left on the table is not yours until you receive it. Come to the Lord in faith. Jesus said "He that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out." John 6:37
A prayer might be: Lord, I have broken your commandments and understand that will separate me from You eternally. But You made a way for me to have my sin paid for--Jesus did that on the cross. I ask You to forgive me and come into my life because
Jesus paid my sin debt. As best as I know how, I now accept Jesus as my Savior. The Bible says He will not cast me out. Help me to live in a way that pleases You and take me to heaven someday when I die. Amen
If you mean this the Bible says "...God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 1 John 5:11 Tom made this decision when he was about 30 years old. He didn't become perfect but he did become a child of God. "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons (and daughters) of God, even to them that believe on His name. John 1:12 Tom would be so happy to have you join him in heaven some day. Pat Goggin Ketels
