Marion Cox

Obituary of Marion Woody Cox

Marion Woody Cox of South Carolina, in eternal rest June 22, 2022. He was at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lake City, SC to Helen Brown Cox and Woodrow Cox. Marion became a resident of Summerville in 1978, when he married the love of his life, Barbara Quinley Cox.

Marion was a Master Carpenter for 60 years, but while that was what he did, he is  better known around town as an amazing race car driver!  He raced all over the tri-state area and was well respected as a skilled driver who won too many races to count! He loved hunting and spent many a day at the lodge with his family and others regailing them with all the tales of his many trophies, including when a deer put an antler through his arm. :)

But his true love was fishing! Right up to the end, Marion wanted "the keys to  his truck to take that boat and go  fishing!" His dream was always to live on a lake where he could just "walk out back and throw in a line."

He also was a Mason and a Shriner! He loved the camaraderie he felt with those that helped others ,and through the Shriners was able to raise money to help the children. He also loved going to the Dorchester Shriners Club to fish :)

Known as Daddy, Papa, Paps, Uncle Marion, and Pops, he was beloved by all in his life. He was one of 14 kids and he is preceded in death by all except one sibling, Delores Heune and a daughter, Darlene Cox. He is survived by his wife Barbara Q. Cox, his daughters, Cyndee Weinstock (Dan) and  Alesia Deris (Saied) his sons, Kenny Cox and Jack Quinley (Pam.) He will also be terribly missed by his adoring grandchildren, Chris Deris, Ashleigh Deris, Jacob Quinley, Sarah Deris, Laura Barton, Anthony Barton, Verlin Quinley, Mason Weinstock, Brett Cox, and Garrett Weinstock, and (4) great grand kiddies, plus too many nieces and nephews to name. We will miss this kind, gentle, loving and generous soul but will continue to try to emulate him. Let his memory be a blessing to us all.

Services will be Saturday, June 25, 2022  at Simplicity Lowcountry in Ladson, SC. Visitation Hours will be 10-11am and the Memorial Service will follow.
