Obituary of Pamela Kirby Marshall

Pamela Kirby Marshall

July 14, 1942-August 5, 2022

On Friday August 5th Pam passed away peacefully in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.  She was surrounded by her family and faithful caregivers.   She was predeceased by her parents the late Grover Cleveland Kirby, Jr. and Elsie Buist Kirby.  Pam is survived by her husband of 57 years, Samuel George Marshall, her only son Kirby George Marshall, daughter-in-law Tristan Mahaffey Marshall and her grandchildren Calvert, Samuel, and Elsie June.  Also surviving are brothers Kleve Kirby and Stephen Kirby.   Pam also leaves behind many, many special friends and colleagues, including her AAU family.

Pam was born in Chicago, Illinois and spent her childhood in New Orleans and attended college there.  While in New Orleans she met Sam.  Once married, Pam and Sam resided in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Florida.  They spent the last 47 years in Florida, raising their son in Coral Springs and moving to Orlando in the mid 1990’s.

In addition to being a wife and mother, Pam worked as a realtor for several years and for over 35 years in various youth sports organizations including Coral Springs American Little League, Coral Springs Winter Baseball, the Gold Coast Amateur Athletic Union, and for the last 25 years at the national office of the Amateur Athletic Union in Orlando, Florida.  She served in various capacities at the AAU, including the Director of Baseball and the Director of Sponsorships.  She was also heavily involved in the presentation of the annual AAU Sullivan Award which honors the nation’s best amateur athlete.  In addition, Pam served on the board of directors for USA Baseball and other sports organizations.

Throughout her life, Pam enjoyed traveling, fine dining, raising golden retrievers, sports of all kinds, and her family.  She was very proud of her New Orleans heritage and visited the city often.  She cared deeply for animals of all types and, perhaps most of all, loved spoiling her grandchildren.

Arrangements will be announced at a later date.
