Obituary of Judith "Judy" Hill Owens

Summerville – Judith (Judy) Hill Owens, loving wife and mother, passed away on Sept. 10, 2022, at the age of 85 after a long battle with cancer. Judy was born in Fort Mill, SC, and moved to the Charleston, SC area after marrying the love of her life, James Rodney Owens Jr (Jimmy). Judy and Jimmy had five children, and in addition to lovingly caring for her family, she worked at NAVFAC as a realty specialist until her retirement. Judy was a world traveler and completed several mission trips to Costa Rica. Through the years, she sewed many Quilts of Valor, actively served her church and community, and was generous to those in need. Judy loved to dance and was known in the contradance community for her infectious smile and her hospitality, often hosting a large group of dancers each year for her local dance weekend.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Lisa Owens Faryadi; sons, Richard Wayne Owens (Felicia) and Daniel Edwin Owens (Robin); her sister, Brenda Hill Cole (Chris); as well as 13 beloved grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Rodney Owens, Jr.; son, James Rodney Owens III; daughter, Laura Owens Bartholow; mother, Margaret Hill Wilson; and sister, Kay Hill Wallace. Judy was unforgettable: strong and steady, peaceful and loving, fun and always down for a good time. Her family and friends will miss her terribly, but we know she’s reunited with her husband, her son and daughter, her sister, and other loved ones who have passed before her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the New Hope UMC Church Sanctuary, 1253 Jedburg Road, Summerville, SC. There will be a private interment at a later date.
