Obituary of Maxwell Keith Welch

 

On Friday, 9 September 2022, Maxwell “Keith” Welch died in Charleston, SC at the age of 79. 

 

Keith was born in Cumberland, Maryland to Max and Marie Welch. He grew up in Charleston, WV and graduated from Charleston High Scool. He also served in the West Virginia Army National Guard in the 1960’s. He worked primarily in the field of civil engineering, living in West Virginia, Colorado, Georgia and Virginia. Keith met his wife Carole (née Routhier) in Georgia. They married in 1985 and moved to Virginia in 1987. A move to South Carolina was made in 2018 to be closer to family support as his health declined. 

 

Keith loved music, mountains, bird watching, professional and collegiate sports, and motorcycle racing. He collected coins and rocks. Mountains were his happy place. 

 

Keith is preceded in death by his parents Max and Marie and his brother, Phillip (Joan) Welch. He is survived by his wife, Carole; three stepsons: Robert (Danelle) Routhier, Doyne (Sonya) Routhier, and Bain (Carlyn) Routhier, three brothers: Dwight (Kathy) Welch, Greg (Lisa) Welch, and Andrew “Andy” (Sofie) Welch , one sister, Karen (Don) McLaughlin, eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
