Obituary of Helen Diane Heffner

Helen Diane Heffner, a native of Minneapolis, MN, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Ronald Leroy Jones (69), her children: Susan Winter (56), Julie Jett (47), Douglas Heffner, Jr. (54), Jeff Heffner (45), and their spouses Rick Winter (56), Brad Jett (47), Patty Heffner (52), and Crystal Heffner (44). She has nine grandchildren: Lindsay (32), Autumn (26), Hunter (24), Ashlynne (22), Joshua (25), Noah (23), Zachary (20), Madison (16), and Chloe (10). She has three great-grandchildren: Carson (5), Easton (10), and Elliana (2). She has 3 surviving sisters and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her first husband Douglas Heffner, Sr. (2013), both parents, 1 brother, and 1 sister.

She spent the last 38 years of her life in the Charleston area of South Carolina, the final 5 years of which were spent in Holly Hill. She was a member of Northwood Assembly Church prior to joining Sandridge First Baptist Church in Ridgeville. She was an active member who lived to share her love of baking. She always had cookies, breads, pies, and other delicious baked goods to give away to members of her church family. You could be certain that if she found out you loved a certain baked good, she would be sure to make it just for you. She will be fondly remembered for her chocolate chip cookies.

Baking was how she expressed her love to family and friends. You would be hard pressed leaving empty handed after visiting her at home, as she always seemed to have goodies just waiting to be eaten. Amongst her closest family and friends, she was famous for her pot roast, brisket, and lasagna. Her banana, coconut, and chocolate cream pies were staples at every holiday and family celebration. So much so that her granddaughter, Lindsay, requested Grandma’s pies at her wedding in lieu of a traditional wedding cake. She loved playing dominoes and cards with her friends and family, and of course cooking their favorite meal. They were happy to be her guinea pigs whenever she wanted to try out a new recipe or two.

The memorial and graveside service will be held on December 3, 2022 at 11 A.M. at the Sandridge First Baptist Church. The address is 4677 State Road, Ridgeville, SC 29472. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Sandridge First Baptist Church. Please call the church at 843.688.5236 for details on how to make a donation in Helen’s name.
