Obituary of Josephine Florence Hinkle

Josephine (Joann) Florence Volsted Hinkle of Goose Creek, SC, formerly of North Charleston widow of the late Grendle Dean Hinkle (married 60 years), passed away at home, Thursday January 12, 2023. She was born February 27, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Elmer Volsted and the late Esther Lundquist Volsted.

Besides her husband and parents, Joann is preceded in death by her 3 sisters and a brother.

Surviving are as follows:

Brother: Robert Volsted of Elgin, Illinois

Children: Patricia Lynn Edwards (Scott) of Summerville; Helena H. Dunn (Thomas) of Goose Creek; Michael Dean Hinkle of Lincolnville; Katherine Ann Herndon (Douglas) of Summerville; Juanita Marie Kellahan of North Charleston; and Charles H. Hinkle of North Charleston. 22 grandchildren, 33 great grands, 20 great great grands and many nieces and nephews

The family will receive visitors from 5pm to 7pm Tuesday January 17th, at Simplicity Funeral Home at 281 Treeland Drive, Suite C, Ladson SC.  Joann’s Celebration of Life service will be Wednesday January 18th, 11 am at Simplicity Funeral home 281 Treeland Drive Suite C, Ladson SC.  Entombment will be at Carolina Memorial Gardens on Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC, directly following her Celebration of Life.

Joann Was President of the North Charleston Senior Center until Covid closed everything down. She enjoyed playing BINGO, Canasta, Dot to Dot books, coloring, Crocheting, plastic canvas and quilting.  She loved spending time with family, friends and going to church. She collected Butterflies, Owls and cardinals. She enjoyed making chicken and dumplings for her grands and will be greatly missed.
