Obituary of Donald J Skinner

October 07, 1947 – February 16, 2023

Donald “Mule” Skinner passed away at his home on February 16, 2023. A veteran of the Navy, he worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a nuclear rigger then as an A/C technician at Camp Lejeune, NC from which he retired.

His interests included Civil War history, Ford history, Nuclear power plants and nuclear submarine history, volunteer restoration work on the USS Lucid, NASA space exploration history, and volunteering in the neighborhood as a general fixit or repair person. He enjoyed traveling around the country visiting museums. He was a devout Catholic and participated in the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Skinner in 2018. He is survived by his son Mark Skinner (Mary Ashbaugh), and grandson George Skinner, and also his brothers Doug Skinner (Carol)  and Butch Skinner (Sherri) . He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

A great father and wonderful grandfather, he will be missed.

Viewing will be from 3pm – 5pm at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation & Burial Services on Thursday, February 23, 2023.

Funeral services will be at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 11am on Friday, February 24, 2023, followed by burial services at Carolina Funeral Home & Gardens at 1:30pm.
