Obituary of James Lee Thompson
James Lee Thompson October 21, 1947- February 18, 2023
Born in Wilmot, AR , Jim made Charleston, SC home for over 40 years. Pilot. Drummer. Crane Operator. Sailor. Car and Motorcycle enthusiast. He started out as a crop duster, and then spent close to 30 years as a crane operator and foreman at the Columbus St State Ports Authority terminal. A devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous, he was sober for close to 37 years. He rarely missed a meeting, and was a sponsor and lifeline to many in recovery.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Lee Thompson and Lillian Coleman Thompson. His brother Norman A. Thompson and his granddaughter Heaven Mason. He is survived by his brother Jon Thompson (Joyce) of Springfield, MO; daughters, Jayne Marie Thompson of Clarksville, TN; Jennifer Thompson Deer (Glenn) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Amanda Thompson Mills (Bryan) of North Charleston, SC. Grandchildren: Miranda Cullum, Tiffany Cullum, Ethan Deer, Hayden Deer, Irene Mills and Sampson Mills.
